- July 16th, 2010At the Presidential Suite, Waldorf Astoria Orlandoby Susan Friedman
When friends started calling me “The First Lady” I knew I was in for a real treat (and ribbing) when I had a chance to stay in the Presidential Suite of the Waldorf Astoria in Orlando. I was right. Walking across the lobby’s exquisite marble floors, I recognized the Tower Clock immediately. It is a reproduction of the iconic ticker at the classic Waldorf in Manhattan. How wonderful!

Well on its way to being Florida’s next artsy town, St. Petersburg debuted the exquisite Chihuly Collection (chihulycollectionstpete.com) last weekend, welcoming the works of Seattle artist Dale Chihuly, a pioneer of the studio glass movement, to a sleek venue on Beach Drive, just steps from the downtown waterfront.

Chef Norman Van Aken has done it again. The arrival of Norman’s 180 is hot news for South Florida foodies who lovingly embraced Norman's fusion of flavors and his forte for creatively bringing New World Cuisine to our palates. Savor classic Van Aken fare (with a twist) at his new digs at the Westin Colonnade in Coral Gables at 180 Aragon Avenue.

- June 30th, 2010Ritz-Carlton Fort Lauderdale Escapeby Patricia Letakis
What I love most about Fort Lauderdale is its beach— a long sandy stretch with a power walking-friendly sidewalk designed for exercise as well as people watching and casual mingling. Last weekend I paired my beach visit with a stay at the Ritz-Carlton Fort Lauderdale (ritzcarlton.com), which is designed to resemble a luxury cruise ship.
