We had a blast at our very first Weekend of Discovery, held at the Jupiter Beach Resort (jupiterbeachresort.com). I really like the resort's rich traditional interior (think British Colonial/Tommy Bahama). This gem on the Atlantic coastline has a fabulous spa and Sinclairs, a wonderful gourmet dining spot. Our Weekend of Discovery room rate included a spa treatment, a wine-paired dinner and a Sunday jazz brunch.

I recently found myself surrounded by what seemed like a zillion pink American flamingos at Sarasota Jungle Gardens (sarasotajunglegardens.com). With a fistful of grub that I bought for a quarter from a dispenser, these gentle, gorgeous birds came right over to feast on the tiny food pellets. Over the years, hundreds of abandoned, abused and unwanted "exotics" and other animals like these flamingos have called this overgrown botanical paradise home. Check it out the next time you're in the area.
