1. South Florida Birding
Miami native Larry Manfredi guides birders around South Florida (even on short notice when he’s available), and also runs tours to other parts of Florida. “The Ultimate South Florida Tour” visits the Everglades, the Florida Keys, Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area and other South Florida birding hot spots.
2. Sarasota Birding Guide
Rick Greenspun runs tours in the Sarasota area and around Southwest Florida. The region has more than 300 resident and transient bird species. From the warbler migrations of early fall to the shorebirds of winter to the spring breeding season in the rock rookeries, there’s almost always great birds to see along the Gulf Coast.
3. Florida Nature Tours
Wes Biggs and his experienced wildlife guides lead annual boat tours to Dry Tortugas National Park, known as a world-class birding location for its rare visitors like the Antillean nighthawk, boobies, noddies and tropic birds. The tour is great for life-list-keepers and photographers.
4. Statewide Birding
For do-it-yourselfers (or anyone with a few spare hours for the birds), the Great Florida Birding Trail has almost 500 sites (and counting) for birding and wildlife viewing from Northwest Florida to the Keys, including nine gateway sites with information on the whole trail. You can download the iPhone/iPad app, Nature Viewing Along with Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail, for maps and bird-by-bird details.
