DAY 3
As tempting as it is to never leave the Disney resort, one cannot live by mouse alone. So today is Discovery Cove day. Entering a shimmering mosaic lobby surrounded by lush landscaped grounds with winding water- ways and tropical flowers, we quickly learn that this is not your average theme park. If SeaWorld opened an exclusive, all-inclusive beach resort in the middle of Orlando, then this would be...oh wait, this is it.
There are no crowds and no lines, just sandy beaches, warm freshwater pools and saltwater lagoons filled with fish, rays and dolphins, plus all-you-can-eat buffets thrown in for good measure. We start the day nibbling French toast under a palm tree. Then we snorkel on a faux reef with the friendliest and brightest-colored fish I’ve ever seen before taking a leisurely float on the warm waters of Wind-Away River through waterfalls, rain- forests and caves. This is the life.
On our way back from a lunch of pesto pasta and chocolate cake, we explore the aviary, feeding fruit to the exotic birds soaring around us. Then it’s time for our Dolphin Swim Experience in the lagoon with the gorgeous Sydney. She’s happy to be petted, kissed and even give us rides on her dor- sal fin. And with the Grand Reef opening this summer, there will soon be a chance to take an under- water walking tour wearing dive helmets to get up close with lionfish and sharks. discoverycove.com
