Chocolate nirvana is hidden in a small pastel building on Highway U.S. 1 at the top of the Florida Keys. As a serious chocophile, I felt like I had won the golden ticket when I opened the door to Key Largo Chocolates and inhaled the intoxicating aromas emanating from their kitchen.

I found I had much to learn about single-malt Scotch while attending a Scotch tasting in Orlando, hosted by one of my favorite Highland distilleries — the Dalmore.

Alys Beach

On a recent trip to Northwest Florida and the Beaches of South Walton, I had a chance to visit the famed scenic 30-A, the 19-mile stretch along the coastline that my colleagues at FT+L traveled and loved.

Food & Wine Classic

Last Friday, I enjoyed a refreshing Florida fall evening outside at the first annual Food & Wine Classic, hosted at the Swan and Dolphin hotels inside the Disney World resort in Lake Buena Vista. An outdoor area overlooking the water connects these two sister hotels and was the perfect spot for the event.

New Pizzeria Debuts at Epcot

Via Napoli

Finally Walt Disney World debuts a pizzeria that puts all others to shame. Don’t expect fast food-style pies at Epcot’s Via Napoli in the Italy Pavilion. This brand-new restaurant, with dark beamed cathedral ceilings and decorative wood-fired ovens (they’re tucked inside the mouths of Roman gods named after volcanoes—Stromboli, Vesuvius and Etna), serves a serious Neapolitan pizza.

RA Sushi, winning Roll for the Cure

I had an entertaining evening recently at RA Sushi in Palm Beach Gardens located at Downtown at the Gardens. Asked to be a judge at a charity event involving inspired sushi rolls, I was all in. There were four sushi rolls created by four charities: South Florida Affiliate of Susan G. Komen For the Cure, Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League, Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County and Make a Wish Foundation of Southern Florida. RA Sushi, with its swanky red and black interior, was buzzing with volunteers from these noteworthy charities eager to have their sushi deemed the crowd fave.

Emeril's Tchoup Chop

When Emeril’s Tchoup Chop opened in Universal’s Royal Pacific Resort in Orlando a few years ago, it was one of my go-to restaurants for Asian-inspired dishes. Recently I popped back in and surprisingly found one of Orlando’s best chefs running the kitchen: Greg Richie.

Short ribs at Derek's Culinary Casual

Last Friday in Sarasota, I joined the town’s foodies at Libby’s and Derek’s Culinary Casual for Savor Sarasota Restaurant Week (savorsarasota.com). Through June 14, diners can pick and choose from 33 restaurants where multi-course meals are just $15 for lunch and $25 for dinner.
