Ringling International Arts Festival

I swooned when Mikhail Baryshnikov blew me a kiss. It happened following his recent remarkable dance performance—Solos with Mikhail Baryshnikov & David Neumann—at the Ringling International Arts Festival (RIAF). The Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) partnered with the Ringling for the second year in a row to bring the festival to life. We’re so fortunate that this iconic artiste has a soft spot for Sarasota! “War, what is it good for?” Well quite a lot actually. At least this Friday night when the Orlando Ballet’s Patric Palkens takes to the stage at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Center for his passionate solo to the iconic 1969 Edwin Starr classic “War”. Yes, you heard it right. That’s ballet and Edwin Starr. And Shriley Bassey and Frank Sinatra and George Michael…

I was wowed by a recent performance of the Orlando Ballet (orlandoballet.org). For one night at the Linda Chapin Theater at the Orlando County Convention Center, my imagination was unfurled by !Bailamos! - a beautiful series of vignettes choreographed by artistic director Robert Hill.

The Living Room at the Four Seasons Resort in Palm Beach (fourseasons.com/palmbeach) has been transformed into a Think Pink! Gallery (through March 16). In total, there are 30 works by 23 artists including photography, mixed media and sculpture. Shades of pink abound. Last night I experienced DRIP (ilovedrip.com), a performing arts troupe unlike any I've seen in Central Florida. Their latest show 'Fresh' (through Feb. 14 at the Cameo Theater) is a daring, sensual spectacle.

After living in London for 10 years, spoiled with some of the greatest theater, music and dance performances on my doorstep, I haven't made much of an effort to seek out the arts since moving to Orlando.
