A Fresh Perspective

A Fresh Perspective

Soft music, flickering candles, fluffy white robes and a deep exhale–that’s what I found at Orlando’s newly opened Fresh Med Spas. Peaceful trees and birds adorn the robin egg-blue and white walls, creating a tranquil setting. Before my session, spa therapist Wendy helped me determine my needs. We discussed a possible regiment and she gave me tips on how to achieve my goals.

Panoramic Views and Pampering

It's more than a salon, it's a destination. The newest hot spot in Boca isn't a chic restaurant or club; it's the Sky Salon and Spa (skysalonandspa.com) at the newly minted Milan Tower on Military Trail. Located on the penthouse level, sky blue walls with exquisite mother of pearl tile detailing welcome you in, bestowing a feeling of being in the clouds. The panoramic view of the Boca skyline is fab too.

Fun to the core

"Yes you can!" I say to myself as I walk into the Core Fusion class at the Exhale Spa (exhalespa.com) inside the new Omphoy Ocean Resort in Palm Beach. Here, in this Zen-like ambience, which carries the hotel's Asian influences, a challenging hour-long workout is about to start. "Strenuous?" I ask a few ladies as they depart from an earlier session. They smile knowingly, toweling off as they go. The view in this open and airy space is a pair of perfectly poised meditation pagodas out in the garden.

FT+L's Weekend of Discovery

We had a blast at our very first Weekend of Discovery, held at the Jupiter Beach Resort (jupiterbeachresort.com). I really like the resort's rich traditional interior (think British Colonial/Tommy Bahama). This gem on the Atlantic coastline has a fabulous spa and Sinclairs, a wonderful gourmet dining spot. Our Weekend of Discovery room rate included a spa treatment, a wine-paired dinner and a Sunday jazz brunch.

Confirmed less than 24 hours before the ribbon cutting, the appearance of Governor Charlie Crist at the Waldorf Astoria Orlando (waldorfastoriaorlando.com), the first to open outside New York City, surprised guests and signaled just how important tourism is to Florida.

My Big Fat Greeks

With kids decked out in Mickey Mouse T-shirts, the Cora family seemed like just another family celebrating at Walt Disney World during the opening of the new Kouzzina restaurant at Disney's Boardwalk. The difference was that one of the members in this big, happy Greek family happens to be celebrity chef Cat Cora, the first female on Food Network's Iron Chef. "Since age 15, I've wanted to open a Greek family-style restaurant in Walt Disney World," said the pint-sized chef.

Spa Chic

I just checked out the new and stunning Spa at the Four Seasons Resort in Palm Beach. A gray striated marble stairway leads you one flight down to a sophisticated sanctuary sated with elegant, classic furnishings. Even the light fixtures are standouts. Amidst relaxing taupe tones, I was ready for the business at hand to begin: a facial. The Spa is home to Kate Somerville's wellness line, including a goat's milk cream and body lotion. I found the spa table adorned with Frette luxury linens. What more could a spa lover ask for?

The New Resort Gym

I had to check out the Lifetime Athletic Club in Boca Raton. Workout buddies said the recently renovated space was worth a peek. So true. The ambience is  industrial, meshing stainless steel, glass and lots of wood. Daniel Miller, Club Management, toured me about showing off the spinning room with 50 top-notch bikes, a basketball court fit for Barack Obama to shoot hoops in and more weights, cardio and sweat-inducing equipment than you could imagine.

Sarasota hotspot

Dining on what had to be one of the most delicious yellowfin tuna dishes ever, with each slice enrobed in a wasabi crust, I knew Sarasota's Libby's Café + Bar (www.libbyscafebar.com) was headed to the top of my foodie's fave list. I chatted with the passionate kin behind the restaurant, Steve Seidensticker, his lovely partner, artist Margaret Barnes, and Steve's sons, Patrick and Joe. The brothers were working the front and the back of the house, their energies palpable.
