Epcot's Morocco Pavilion

Although there are about a dozen countries to visit in Epcot, the Morocco Pavilion at this Walt Disney World theme park caught our eye. Drawn in by Middle Eastern music and the sweet smell of incense wafting out the doors of the shops, we soon discovered an intricately designed “city.” Colorful mosaic tiles adorn the walls of the buildings in this mazelike bazaar setting, where gold brocade-trimmed tunics, woven belts and purses, leather sandals and rugs with traditional Moroccan patterns tempted our pocketbooks.

Hungry and unable to agree on where to eat, the Tangierine Café — casual yet elegant, and busy without being chaotic — was perfect. We started with the vegetable platter: falafel, creamy hummus, lentil salad, marinated olives and tangerine couscous salad. The olives were my favorite; they could be mixed favorably with everything else on the plate. Next came the chicken shawarma platter, chicken on puffy pita with sides of tzatziki, hummus and tabouleh. We should have been ready to move along after polishing off these heaping platters, but we couldn’t resist the cappuccino and baklava, which we enjoyed at an outdoor table. The setting sun playing off the Moroccan architecture gave the pavilion an enchanted atmosphere.
