Cool Show, Cooler House
Visionary Coconut Grove architect Max Strang (strangarchitects.com) is known for designing modern homes with heaps of style. So it comes as no surprise that his residence caught the eye of Burn Notice (usanetwork .com/series/burnnotice), an über-cool show on the USA Network about a former spy and his cohorts. It's an hour-long picture postcard of Miami, sated with beautiful scenery and beautiful people. The episode with the Strang home (which appeared in the Miami Vice film) uses its open-air, tree-house-like upper-level deck and plunge pool below as a stunning locale for a party scene with star Gabrielle Anwar on deck. Very Grove-esque with oolitic limestone and ipe wood, Strang's design is surrounded by lush foliage and towering bamboo. The architect's a minimalist, so furnishings are few but fabulous, including pieces with Eastern influences. Check local listings for the episode, Noble Causes, airing in late August.
