A Day at Golden Beach
It’s a gem of a town. All 1.8 miles of it. At 81-years-old, Golden Beach is a private oceanfront enclave that’s sandwiched between coastal Hallandale Beach to the north and Sunny Isles Beach to the south. Blink as you drive through and you just might miss it. That wasn’t the case on a recent outing when I toured the new Strand, a private beach pavilion for residents. I also had an insider’s glimpse at several stunning homes (on the intracoastal and its waterways or directly on the Atlantic Ocean) including a Zen-like uber abode with an oceanfront view. The dwelling has some of the most extraordinary art and woodwork (door frames imported from Germany) that I’ve ever seen. The Swarovski chandelier, a focal point in the dining room, wasn’t too shabby either. While it’s true that this community has a reputation for exclusivity—attracting the likes of music icon Eric Clapton and famed photographer Bruce Weber—I have come to learn that it’s also home to a changing demographic composed of young families raising happy kids. And while you’ll find empty nesters here too, a population composed of mostly snowbirds is now pretty much a thing of the past.
Don’t expect to see condos or commercial buildings. Do expect a mix of both grandiose estate homes and preserved ranch-styles. The town, with approximately 370 single-family homes, has been undergoing a $25 million overhaul of its infrastructure, utilities and streetscape. Taxes remain unaffected. Once the three-year project is wrapped (it’s nearly complete), all utility wires will be underground and sidewalks will be aplenty. Golden Beach, is it your next great place to live?
