Fairmont Turnberry Isle: A Hidden Gem for Golfers

Fairmont Turnberry Isle: A Hidden Gem for Golfers

The 18th hole, Soffer Course Fairmont Turnberry isle

A recent trip to Miami took me to the Fairmont Turnberry Isle resort tucked in Aventura, a burgeoning urban area where high rises and shopping compete for attention. Yet, in the middle of this well-defined community sits this gorgeous resort, surrounded by a three-mile sidewalk lined with tropical greenery that corrals the resort’s Mediterranean architecture and fairytale-designed golf course.

Although there are swimming pools, a chef’s garden and restaurants like Michael Mina’s Bourbon Steak, the golf course is by far the dazzler. From my spacious – and I mean really spacious – room I could gaze out on the 18th hole (see photo). Unfortunately I didn’t have time to play a round, but this summer the resort is offering guests unlimited complimentary greens fees on the two Raymond Floyd-redesigned courses. (The only cost to you is a $40-per-person cart fee, a drop in the bucket or should I say hole, compared to the hundreds of dollars to play during high season.) Make plans now; the special pricing runs from May 25 through September 30.
