Food Truck-Chef Cook-Off at Whole Foods Market
Last summer I judged the Fill the Grill cook-off at Whole Foods Market, Phillip’s Crossing and sampled the Italian sausages with grilled onions and peppers prepared by chef Steve Saelg of the Crooked Spoon food truck. At this year’s first competition (Thursday, July 12, at 7 p.m.) a whole new batch of popular food-truck chefs will battle it out, beginning with Catarina Triacca of Gastro Trina Truck and Bryce Baluff of Fork in the Road. The two chefs have $20 to spend in 20 minutes as they speed down the aisles, gathering ingredients. They then have 20 minutes to prepare a dish, using only a grill, for the judges. I’ll be there Thursday evening to once again sample the foodie offerings and score each dish for its originality, taste and visual appearance.
On July 19 — same place, same time — Tony Adams of Big Wheel Provisions vs. Bruno Fonseca of Five Gastronomy. The two finalists from each competition will battle it out at the final cook-off on July 26. Whole Foods Market, Phillips Crossing, is located at 8003 Turkey Lake Road in Orlando; 407.355.7100
