FT+L's Affordable Luxury TV Show Hits Fort Lauderdale

FT+L's Affordable Luxury TV Show Hits Fort Lauderdale

Affordable Luxury Greater Ft. Lauderdale

Just the other day, I spent a perfectly beautiful sunny afternoon with the crew of FT+L’s Affordable Luxury TV show while they filmed at the Sheraton Fort Lauderdale Beach Hotel (formerly the Sheraton Yankee Clipper). The show’s happy host, Will Christien, was sitting pretty in a poolside cabana with an icy cocktail.

The Sheraton is an iconic property with a famous hotspot that dates back to the 1950s known as the Wreck Bar.  Head there on Fridays at 6:30 p.m. for happy hour and to catch the mermaids (yes, mermaids) swimming about through “ship” views of the main pool. It’s retro, colorful and fun!

As part of this landmark hotel’s chic renovation, there’s a new dining venue called Dos Caminos.  The cool interior of the creative Mexican cantina will definitely entice you, but there’s more than just ambience here. It’s a must for killer guacamole (it's addictive) and more than 100 tequilas. See if you can total up all of the "Day of the Dead" Mexican skeletons and skull artifacts, especially after a margarita or two!

For a vacation getaway, the hotel couldn’t be more perfect. The moment you step foot into the lobby with its hues of green and blue, you’re ready to relax. The modern casual furnishings give it a “living room” quality, but it’s the walkway from the front entry with its port hole-esque images of turtles, stingrays and colorful fish that capture the tropical vibe. As I explored the property — from the lobby décor and rooms with balcony views of the ocean and boats cruising by — to the fab infinity pool and the Beach Bar & Grill area for lunch, all I kept thinking was, ‘This hotel is what FT+L’s Affordable Luxury TV show is all about.’

Check your local listings for the upcoming airdate on the Discovery channel.
