Holy Hefeweizen!
A place that serves 500 beers? Is this some Homer Simpson dream sequence? Nope. It's World of Beer, the new brew-topia in Viera, a growing suburb just west of Melbourne (Exit 191 off I-95). Tucked into an airy indoor/outdoor space at The Avenue, World of Beer is decked out with high ceilings, red brick accents and flatscreens galore. But no one is coming for the interior design or high-def picture quality. World of Beer has over 500 beers (50 on tap and 450 by the bottle). You can almost hypnotize yourself by trying to pick just one brew from one of the big, heavily populated glass coolers (look below and see for yourself). While the place lives up to its name by offering labels from nearly every continent, it's the bevy of hard-to-find American microbrews that makes WOB special. There are pale ales and oatmeal stouts from Oregon's Rogue, and the potent 90-minute IPA from Dogfish Head, the booming craft beer house in Rehobeth Beach, Delaware. But in my first sampling, it was St. Peter's cream stout that stood out most (perhaps it's because it came in a dark green apothecary bottle). By buying the World of Beer Loyalty card, you can keep tabs on your tabs (it itemizes everything you've ever sampled) and earns you future buybacks. I'm up to 11. 489 to go.
