Key West's Pier House, One Duval Street

Key West's Pier House, One Duval Street

View from my room: Pier House gardens, pool and harbour beyond.

My Pier House second story suite (with two balconies) included a spacious living room and equally roomy bedroom, both overlooking the garden path, swimming pool and the shimmering Gulf of Mexico. It was super comfy with a sophisticated Tommy Bahama sensibility. Immersed in the resort’s Caribbean aesthetic, I grabbed a late lunch at the Beach Bar & Grill where I devoured a perfectly grilled mahimahi sandwich on toasted Cuban bread with a luscious creamy Caribbean-style slaw.  From my vantage point, I could see a sunset Fury Catamaran with its deep red sails flying. What a sight!

At Sunset Pier next door, steps from Mallory Square, I watched the sun bid the Gulf goodnight. I became one with a sea of happy people. All were living in the moment. Me too! In this postcard milieu, cool tunes wafted through the air, couples danced, and all seemed right with the world. My first Key West sunset in quite some time was  synonymous with bliss.

Look for more blogs on my Key West experience and a Key West feature in FT+L’s March/April issue.
