New in Midtown Miami

New in Midtown Miami

November 2nd, 2009

Midtown is no longer no man's land. Ever since the Miami neighborhood debuted a couple of years ago, there was little but slick condo towers, a Target and Loehman's. Today, two new European-inspired hot spots stand a chance of luring folks away from downtown and the neighboring Design District. Low-slung sofas, plush, zebra-striped rugs and a bevy of bartenders that look like they belong on a hip, MTV reality show give the Bardot lounge (bardotmiami.com) a dark and sexy vibe - as does co-owner Josh Fisher. His dirty good looks give him a Matthew McConaughey edge that's sure to prompt ladies to plan return visits. For an older crowd that prefers martinis and Elton John classics, stop by this speakeasy after work before late-night crowds gather for live music showdowns. At the Cheese Course (786.220.6681) on the northern edge of Midtown, bougain- villeas, potted herbs and the scent of Ghouda and Blue cheeses will have you thinking you're in a French café. This rustic eatery offers delicious sandwiches (try the eggs with avocado and roasted red peppers), a daily quiche, and salads in styles that range from French to Greek. Take home a baguette, a trio of cheeses and spreads like pumpkin apple (yum), or sit on the patio and sip cappuccino. French poodle optional.
