Stand up paddle board fun on the Old Jupiter Inlet

While staying at the Jupiter Beach Resort & Spa we set off on a super sunny morning to go stand up paddle boarding with Rick Clegg of the Jupiter Outdoor Center. Clegg was ready and waiting for us with all the gear at an inlet entry point mere steps from the resort.

In no time at all he appraised who had paddle-boarding experience (or not) and then we were off. The moment you’re on the paddleboard — standing up, seated or on your knees —  the noisiness of life disappears and the scenic beauty of your surroundings simply takes over. Paddling with Clegg is done at a leisurely, Zen-like pace. He even helps you stand up (yeah! I did it!) and eases you into your comfort zone with the board.

The mangroves, which thrive in salty environments, are everywhere. Many are dotted with oyster barnacles and then there's also the occasional bright pink bougainvillea bloom. Sighting a turtle is a bonus!  And as for the faint popping clicking noise you hear, it’s a low-tide phenomenon from within those magnificent tangled roots.
