Disney's Art of Animation Resort

On a tour of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, I met Nemo, Mr. Ray and Crush. Instead of living in a computer in a virtual way or on a movie screen, these colorful characters from the film Finding Nemo stand three stories high as part of the architectural design of this family-friendly suite resort. The figurines steal the show as they dazzle alongside the Big Blue pool, which at 11,859 square feet is the largest swimming pool in Walt Disney World. Fish, sharks and turtles are sketched on the resort’s exterior walls, representing the first step of creating an animated character.

As for the suites, Disney execs told me that guest requests for accommodations that sleep six was the impetus for building a suite resort. Families find a master bedroom, living area with a refrigerator, sink, microwave and sleeper sofa, and a dining/play area where a table “magically” converts into a bed big enough for two kids. Best of all the suites have two bathrooms.

The second wing, designed around the movie Cars, opens June 18, the third wing, incorporating the Lion King theme, opens August 10 and the final wing, standard rooms designed around the Little Mermaid, opens September 15. Ready to be a kid again?
