SoBe's 5 Napkin Burger Gains Another Fan
Around midnight, after a long drive down to Miami from Orlando, we were more than ready for the dinner we’d been anticipating for hours. My boyfriend is a burger lover; I stopped eating meat earlier this year and was thrilled to learn that 5 Napkin Burger has a (homemade) veggie option.
Luckily for us, South Beach's 5 Napkin Burger, on Lincoln Road, is open until 1 a.m. on weekends. After some deliberation, he ordered the original — a 10 oz. patty, Gruyere cheese and rosemary aioli, served on a white roll — and sweet-potato fries. A few bites in, he declared it a marvel of modern, minimalist burger creations. Although it looked delicious, I didn’t covet his burger for a second. Barley, black beans, brown rice, sesame seeds, jalapeños, carrots and beets are among the ingredients that make up the veggie-burger patty. It’s smothered with house dressing, topped with bread-and-butter pickles, lettuce and tomato, and served on a multigrain roll. I’m a bread person, and the bun — seedy and grainy (in a good way), fresh, and delicious — was perfect. We shared the sweet-potato fries, which scored a 10: hot and crispy with just a hint of sweetness.
No doubt, 5 Napkin Burger made our list of favorite Miami dining spots. And with it being vegetarian-friendly and all, I have to wonder: Any chance of one opening in Orlando?
