“War, what is it good for?” Well quite a lot actually. At least this Friday night when the Orlando Ballet’s Patric Palkens takes to the stage at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Center for his passionate solo to the iconic 1969 Edwin Starr classic “War”. Yes, you heard it right. That’s ballet and Edwin Starr. And it all works together with more classic songs by Shriley Bassey and Frank Sinatra and George Michael…

Battle of the Sexes is the latest offering from the Orlando Ballet’s new artistic director Robert Hill. Pushing boundaries with his provocative choreography set to modern popular music, this show promises to offer up some wonderful moments of passion, physicality and tongue-in-cheek humor. Personally, I can’t wait to see Palkens perform the Parisian-style tango, Ay Milonga, with the wonderful Katia Garza . Or the entire company battle it out as West Side Story’s Jets and Sharks. Hmm, I can’t decide what’s sexier – the dancers or the songs. March 19-21, www.orlandoballet.org
