Urban Chic at Mandarin Oriental Miami
Checking in at the Mandarin Oriental Miami my attention is drawn to the stunning Manuel Carbonell sculpture situated in front of a magnificent view of Biscayne Bay and downtown beyond. The late Cuban sculptor’s work dots this city landscape, inside and out. Upon a tray adorned with fresh flowers, I’m offered a glass of perfectly chilled passion fruit chamomile tea. Welcome to the Mandarin Oriental Miami.
Swept up by my surroundings, I still take a moment to eye the colorful lobby shop Shanghai Tang with its silk dresses, etched bracelets and more. I will be back, but first I’m off to my room (1909), a Mandarin Executive Suite. My eyes pop when I take in the view from 19 floors up — straight on is the Brickell Key bridge leading to the bustling Brickell financial district.
Just in time for my spa appointment, I'm led to a sanctuary suite where silk fabrics drape the treatment bed and walls; a ceiling cloth flows dramatically on bamboo rods. I am blissful for two hours as my aesthetician Angela renews me. The multi-tiered Opulent Rejuvenesence facial uses the products of Ivo Pitanguy of Brazil and is enhanced by massage plus Moroccan oil for the hair. I think I may never leave.
Look for more on the Mandarin Oriental Miami in FTL’s September/October issue.
