By Gregory Anderson, shot in Pompano Beach
One must often risk early mornings and soggy shoes to create a winning photograph. Gregory Anderson of Boca Raton knows this well, after enduring both to capture this presunrise image of the Hillsboro Lighthouse in Pompano Beach. “There was an extremely low tide,” Anderson says. “The area between the lighthouse and the jetties is usually covered by water and waves, but the low tide allowed me to walk on the reef out to the rocks for an unusual perspective.”

By Clane Gessel, shot in Everglades National Park
Sometimes a little bit of luck goes a long way. Naples resident Clane Gessel helped create his own good fortune when he took his boat out to the Everglades in search of a great landscape shot. “After I got on the water, it was still a few hours until sunrise,” Gessel says, “so I fell asleep in the boat. As it drifted around, I awoke to this very spot as the sun was rising, so I got out my tripod and stuck it in the 3-foot-deep water.”

By Cara Murphy, shot in Odessa
Cara Murphy of Ponte Vedra Beach awoke to this scene on Keystone Lake in Odessa while preparing to head to the Gasparilla celebration in nearby Tampa. “My friend William was already awake, checking his poles and traps he had set out the night before,” Murphy explains. Knowing that timing can make or break a photo, she ran inside to get her camera. “I had to capture that moment in the next few seconds or the sun wouldn’t be at that perfect spot through the trees.”

By Michelle Walker, shot in Daytona Beach
As a native Floridian, Windermere resident Michelle Walker is very familiar with the quirks of the state’s weather patterns — and how to take advantage of them. “It had been storming all afternoon. Not your ideal beach weather,” Walker says of a day on which her daughter surfed the Atlantic along the coast of Daytona Beach. “However, the storms had created ideal surf conditions. The contrast of scenery is a constant reminder of Mother Nature’s beauty and power.”
