The Chiefs are the pride of Kansas City, but did you know they were once the pride of Dallas, Texas? The franchise was born in 1960 as the Dallas Texans of the American Football League. After sharing the Cotton Bowl with the crosstown Dallas Cowboys for three seasons, the Chiefs packed their bags and headed to Kansas City.
The fans in Kansas City have rewarded their hometown team by being among the loudest in the country (regularly dueling with the Seattle Seahawks fans for loudest in the NFL). Lately, the passion has paid off as the Chiefs have become consistent winners on the field.
While we wait for their next Super Bowl run, here are four items every Kansas City Chiefs fan should own.
Chiefs Cap
Does the Kansas City logo remind you of the San Francisco 49er’s interlocked “SF” logo? That was actually the intention of Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt when he sketched the logo out on a napkin back in the early ’60s. It has remained largely unchanged since the team’s early history.
Chiefs Mug
Normally coffee mugs don’t instill feelings of Sunday tailgating and post-game victory celebrations. But the bright red, gold and white colors of this official Chiefs mug are enough to make us want to wake up and smell the coffee each Monday morning.
Chef’s Hat and Apron
Kansas City fans don’t mess around when it comes to food. You’re going to need this apron and hat to serve up proper barbecue ribs and burnt ends. Keep that thick sauce off your tailgating gear with this Chiefs’ apron and chef’s hat.
Soft-Sided Cooler
Compared to concession prices at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium, this soft-sided cooler and lunch bag seems like such a bargain. It can accommodate up to nine cans, and thanks to Coleman technology, this must-have tailgating cooler keeps food and drinks cold up to 24 hours – enough to survive a full day of NFL action.
