Sure there might be a few odd birds out there but you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who would turn down a good doughnut—or any doughnut for that matter because there really is no such thing as a bad doughnut, right? Best of all, any time of day is a good time to enjoy these sweet, carby delights. For the last few weeks, we’ve been scrolling through our Instagram taking notes and slowly compiling the top spots locals love and support. At times, this was not an easy task—suffering through midday pangs of sugar cravings behind the desk when doughnuts were nowhere to be found—but we pushed through just so we could bring you the absolute best doughnut places in Florida.

Five-O Donut Co, Sarasota

Five-O Donut Co takes their doughnut making seriously, they open at 7 a.m. during the week but close times are unpredictable as their doughnut inventory dictates their hours. It’s recommended to get there early, they’re known to close as early as 11 a.m.! You can check their Facebook page for the daily flavors but they also feature a doughnut surveillance cam on their site so you can see for yourself how the stock the looking.

Bake Shack, Dania Beach

Open for breakfast and lunch, the doughnuts at Bake Shack are legendary. Offering 11 signature flavors, plus a special doughnut of the day, locals love waking up to this beachside bakery. We’re partial to the creme brulee yeast doughnut, which comes with a torched sugar top and is filled with creamy, house-made vanilla custard.

Donut Hole, Santa Rosa Beach

You can find the Donut Hole in three locations around North Florida along the 30A coast. The Santa Rosa Beach spot in South Walton is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner—but if you’re truly only visiting for doughnuts you better get there early. The clear favorite among all of the excellent flavors is the red velvet.

Donnie’s Donuts, Ormond Beach

For doughnuts with a craft feel, Donnie’s in Ormond Beach has you covered. Their employees are known as “donut artists,” and boy is that ever true. With flavors like banana pudding and maple bacon, loyal customers are crazy for these classic sweets with gourmet panache.

The Salty Donut, Miami and Orlando

Leave it to Miami to grace us with the ultimate small-batch, artisan doughnuts. With six featured flavors rotating weekly and six year-round flavors like brown butter with salt and guava with cheese, you can bet this place draws a crowd from the minute the doors open.

Glazed Donuts, Key West

Serving up super creative flavors, Glazed Donuts in the heart of Key West, is a cannot-miss stop. Scratch-made doughnuts are their specialty with an emphasis on Florida-inspired flavors like their jelly-filled blood orange or the Cuban coffee cake doughnut. But it’s the coveted key lime doughnut, with its perfectly charred meringue top, that really has us hooked.

Swiller Bees, Flagler Beach

Central Floridian’s love this beachy doughnut and coffee shop for lots of reasons but it’s their unusual flavors that are always fun to try. Think root beer float, watermelon, and jalapeño…yep, they’ve managed to create a doughnut to satisfy almost any craving.

Good Dough, Jacksonville

One look at Good Dough’s doughnut menu and you’ll be ready to hop in the car and head to Jacksonville. The shop has had steady lines since they opened their doors earlier this year. With unique flavors like mimosa or the monte cristo, you can understand why. Oh and if you want to add a little protein to your sweet snack, order the fried chicken doughwich and report back to us, it looks incredible! Oh and that lead image at the top of this page, that’s Good Dough too.

The Donut King, Minneola

A post shared by dgagliar (@dgagliar) on

We love The Donut King for its traditional feel. This family-owned shop located in Minneola has a friendly, small town vibe with some of the best doughnuts you’ll ever eat. You really can’t go wrong with anything you get here but the mega-sized glazed doughnuts are hit with the kids and the cinnamon-sugar doughnut will blow your mind. However, it’s the jumbo apple fritters (pictured above) that sell out in no time flat.

Valkyrie Doughnuts, Orlando

Orlandoans were blessed with Valhalla Bakery some time ago, which sells their amazing doughnuts every day out of Market on South. Due to popular demand and an overwhelmingly positive response, Valkyrie Doughnuts opened its doors in 2017. These doughnuts are big and heavily glazed, yeast-doughnut freaks like me go nuts for them. What’s even more intriguing is the fact that these desserts are somehow 100% egg-free and dairy-free. I won’t pretend to understand the science of how they’re made but I will tell you they are treasured by locals.
