In late July 2022, Gardening enthusiasts make their annual pilgrimage to Lake Placid in Central Florida to celebrate the 31st edition of the Caladium Festival. Lake Placid grows about 90 percent of the world’s supply of caladium bulbs, often known by the common name elephant ear, heart of Jesus, and angel wings.

Over the three days of the festival, guests can purchase bulbs and plants, go on grower-guided tours, and visit a home site that has been planted extensively with caladiums. Festival admission is free. Bus tours of the caladium fields, decorated neighborhood and Lake Placid area can be purchased in advance for $12 or $15 the day of the event.
