No Bumper Stumper: These are the Best U.S. Cities to Drive In

Most Americans rely on cars to get around, but some cities are better for those behind the wheel than others. A study by WalletHub has determined the best and worst cities to drive in.

WalletHub compared the 100 largest cities across 30 key indicators of driver-friendliness. Among the metrics are gas prices, the cost of a new car, monthly insurance premiums, and parking rates. Other factors include the number of rainy days, average commute time, and the quality of roads and bridges.

Three Florida cities were ranked within the Top 20, a list that was dominated by towns in Texas.

Best Cities to Drive in:

  1. Raleigh, NC
  2. Plano, TX
  3. Corpus Christi, TX
  4. Greensboro, NC
  5. Winston-Salen, NC
  6. Lincoln, NE
  7. Jacksonville, FL
  8. Arlington, TX
  9. Garland, TX
  10. Orlando, FL
  11. Austin, TX
  12. Tampa, FL
  13. El Paso, TX
  14. Laredo, TX
  15. Boise, ID
  16. Lexington-Fayette, KY
  17. Irving, TX
  18. Scottsdale, AZ
  19. Irvine, CA
  20. Lubbock, TX

Other Florida cities earned some dubious honors. Miami was tied for 60th for cities with the most hours spent in congestion. Orlando, Miami ,and Tampa all tied for first place for the number of car washes per capita. Jacksonville and St. Petersburg were among the top 5 cities for lowest parking rates.

Among the worst cities to drive in, according to WalletHub, are Philadelphia (ranked No. 100) followed by Detroit, Oakland, San Francisco and Chicago. Click here to see the full list.
