WalletHub gave each state a ranking based on military engagement and civic engagement. Those rankings were determined by 13 relevant metrics including such things as average military enlistees by thousand adults, veterans per thousand adults, share of adults of voted in the 2020 presidential election and the number of AmeriCorps and Peace Corps volunteers.
The suspense is killing you, right?
Virginia was the most patriotic state in the WalletHub study, followed by Montana, Alaska, North Dakota and Maine.
Arkansas was the least patriotic state, followed by Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York and – boom – Florida.

Florida ranked 19th for military engagement, but next to last in civic engagement. Florida ranked dead last in the volunteer rate.
In case you’re wondering how politics played in the ranking, “blue” states were more patriotic than “red” states. The red vs. blue designation is based on how they voted in the 2020 presidential election. That makes Florida a red state even though Democrats slightly outnumbered Republicans in 2020.
