Miami has been named one of the Top 10 cities in America, according to a new ranking by the placemaking firm Resonance. Miami was ranked No. 6 and was the only Florida city in the Top 10 list.
For cities to receive recognition, Resonance researchers look at 100 metro areas and examined metrics such as cost of living, investment to walkability and diversity—deemed most important when choosing a place to live, work and visit.
Here are the Top 10 from Resonance:
- New York, NY
- Chicago, IL
- Los Angeles, CA
- San Francisco, CA
- Washington, D.C.
- Miami, FL
- Boston, MA
- Seattle, WA
- Houston, TX
- San Jose, CA
According to Resonance, Miami scored high in the outdoors, walkability and overall “place” category.
“But it’s Miami’s openness to immigrants (and, more recently, the LGBTQ+ community, and, even more recently than that, Silicon Valley migrants) that has people buzzing,” the report reads. “The city has the highest percentage of foreign-born residents in America (which is saying something), and ranks No. 6 for the highest percentage of BIPOC residents, with all the epic Pride festivals and programming you’d expect, led by the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau and its initiatives like Rainbow Spring earlier this year.”
Resonance goes on to laud Miami for its culinary scene, mentioning Michellin nods and James Beard nominations for local restaurants.

“Expect America’s second-most Instagrammed city to top that ranking, fueled by #foodporn, soon,” the report concludes.
Other Florida cities making Resonance’s list were Orlando (No. 17), Tampa (No. 27), Jacksonville (No. 61), Cape Coral (No. 92), Pensacola (No. 96) and Lakeland (No. 97).
